Ndow: “Playing for Spezia is an honor, and I'll give it my all for this jersey”

From the Follo training center, here’s what Abdoulie Ndow, the midfielder who joined the team during the summer transfer window and has been with the squad since the Pontremoli training camp, had to say: “I’m very happy to be here, because I’ve joined a prestigious and well-organized club, where I’ll do my very best to contribute to the team’s success.

I remember Spezia very well from when they came to Frosinone two years ago: I was very impressed. I’m not just talking about the team, but also the fans, who are very passionate and devoted to the club; I never thought I’d be able to come here to play, so when I got the call, I didn’t have to think twice, because for me it’s a great honor to wear this jersey and play at the “Picco.”

I arrived from The Gambia when I was very young, and the beginning certainly wasn’t easy—not only because of the language, but also because, for a young person, leaving your family behind is never simple; at the same time, though, it was a wonderful experience, because I began to see so many things I wasn’t used to.

I have to give a big thank you to my agent, Miriam Peruzzi, who has always been there for me, and to my sports-loving dad, Sergio Borgo, who has always told me about this club. I’m truly proud to be able to wear the jersey that he himself wore: he told me he knows the city and the fans well, and he’s sure they want a player like me—someone who never gives up and always tries to give 100%. I’ll try to do my best for him, too—he’s my idol.”

I remember my first training session in Serie D: it was raining and cold—weather conditions I’d never experienced before. I asked an African guy who was there with me why my feet were hurting, and he explained that it was normal, that it was just because of the cold, and that the feeling would go away during training.

As for the championship we won in Frosinone in Primavera 2, I remember that at first I wasn’t getting much playing time, but even then Sergio Borgo told me to be patient and that when my time came, I’d have to make the most of it to prove my worth—and that’s exactly what happened. It was a wonderful experience; in the end, we also won the Super Cup in addition to the league title, and I have nothing but great memories of that season.

My debut in Serie B? I definitely had to adjust to a different style of soccer, and training with strong players like those at Frosinone really shaped me and helped me grow.

Director Angelozzi? From the very first moment, I realized how talented he was: with him, you don’t need to speak—a single glance is enough to understand him.

What kind of midfielder am I? Generous—I always love to win and try to help the team do so. So on the field, I try to use my running to support my teammates and win back as many balls as possible; I think that’s my strongest point. On the other hand, I think I need to improve tactically, because even though I’ve grown a lot in that area over the past three years, I know I still have a lot to learn, and every day I try to follow Coach Turati’s advice.

A teammate I clicked with right away? I’d say Joselito—he’s a wonderful person, and I got along with him really well from the start—but overall, it’s a truly great group.

I can’t wait to wear the Spezia jersey because I absolutely love the colors, and I’m also really eager to play at the “Picco” and meet the Spezia fans, who are incredibly passionate.”
