The first official event of the two-year collaboration announced in recent days between Spezia Calcio and Fondazione Theodora was held on the evening of Thursday, November 20. Since 1995, Fondazione Theodora has been supporting the emotions of over 35,000 hospitalized children and adolescents and more than 105,000 family members every year in 44 pediatric wards in 13 hospitals in 10 cities, including Sant'Andrea in La Spezia.
In front of a large representation of Spezia Calcio's partners, who once again demonstrated their support for the club and its social activities, the CEO of the club, Andrea Gazzoli, did the honors, reminding everyone not only of Spezia Calcio's social commitment in the area, but above all of the fundamental role that the Theodora Foundation and its Dream Doctors play every day, with professionalism, intelligence, sensitivity, and love, finding the key to entering the most complex and delicate situations in the right way.
The 31 Dream Doctors of the Theodora Foundation—professional artists specifically trained for the hospital environment—offer individualized and personalized visits through four programs: ward, surgical accompaniment, pediatric hospice, obstetrics, and neonatal pathology. The Foundation selects, trains, and constantly supports the Dream Doctors, guaranteeing quality, psychological supervision, and completely free interventions for hospitals and families.
Later in the evening, moderated by Aquilotto speaker Federico La Valle, Emanuela Basso Petrino, Managing Director of the Theodora Foundation, and Antonio Panella, better known as Dr. Pelosone, a long-standing presence in Ligurian hospitals, explained the mission that has characterized the Theodora Foundation for 30 years, the delicate work of the Dream Doctors, the emotions of young patients and their families, and specifically the Foundation's activities at Sant'Andrea Hospital in La Spezia, where, in addition to working in pediatrics and neonatology, it also carries out its activities in the obstetrics department.
Before the moving monologue by Daniela Basso, a nurse in the pediatric oncohematology department at Gaslini and ambassador for the Theodora Foundation, Dr. Massimiliano Leoni, a pediatrician in the pediatrics department at Sant'Andrea, also spoke, confirming the importance of the role of the Dream Doctors in the treatment of young children.
In closing, before the Club presented a commemorative jersey to the Theodora Foundation, it was the turn of Aquila testimonials Luca Vignali and Francesco Cassata to express their heartfelt thanks to the Dream Doctors and the entire Foundation, in a moment filled with great emotion.
Finally, CEO Andrea Gazzoli made a closing announcement. After thanking everyone present on behalf of owner Thomas Roberts and president Charlie Stillitano, he announced that the Aquile would be wearing a special jersey for the Spezia-Modena match on December 13, which would then be auctioned off, with all proceeds going to the Theodora Foundation.
