Spezia Calcio announces that it has appointed Roberto Donadoni as head coach of the First Team. He has signed a contract with the club based in Via Melara until June 30, 2026.
An internationally renowned figure and former coach of the Italian national team between 2006 and 2008, Donadoni boasts a first-rate career, both as a player—having been a star of the Invincibles Milan team with which he won six league titles and three European Cups—and as a coach, with over 400 games under his belt in the professional leagues.
His coaching career began in 2001 in Serie C1 with Lecco, before quickly moving up to Serie B, first with Livorno and then with Genoa. His arrival in the top flight in 2005, at Livorno, saw the Tuscan side become the revelation of the championship, finishing the season in ninth place in the table, a result that allowed the coach to take over the Italian national team, fresh from their 2006 World Cup victory, which he led for two years from 2006 to 2008, until Euro 2008, which saw the Azzurri reach the quarter-finals against Spain, only to be eliminated on penalties by the future European champions.
This was followed by various experiences on the bench of prestigious clubs such as Napoli, Cagliari, Parma - in the 2013-2014 season, he finished sixth with the Ducali - and Bologna, before moving to Shenzhen in the Chinese Super League. With over twenty years of experience as a player and as many on the bench as a coach, Roberto Donadoni brings with him experience, charisma, and great expertise, qualities that he will put at the service of the Eagles.
In his new adventure on the shores of the Gulf of Poets, Mr. Donadoni will be assisted by his deputy Matteo Cioffi, athletic trainers Giovanni Saracini and Alessandro Buccolini, and Match Analyst Martino Sofia.
