After the match at the Picco, the words of coach Marco Turati:
“I had already stressed yesterday that today’s match would be really tough, because in front of us we had a side with important quality and strong young players, who always try to dictate the game, and my compliments go to them. I also want to compliment my lads, because they attacked the game right away and then created several really dangerous chances that we weren’t good enough to convert; perhaps we still lack that maturity and that ruthlessness needed to close out games earlier. It has to be said, though, that the pitch also made a negative difference today: it wasn’t in good condition, and it’s not the first time. For us it’s a problem, because it’s a handicap both for the play and for possible injuries, so at a certain point the match got scrappy for this reason too.
Especially in the closing stages of the first half we could have put the game to bed, but we didn’t manage to capitalize on fairly simple situations, and when you keep matches in the balance, you can risk something; in the second half too the chances didn’t dry up, but compared with other occasions, we lacked a bit of the composure we’ve had at other times.
Mateju? He slipped during a defensive recovery, felt a small twinge and preferred to stop immediately so as not to take a risk.
Cardinali? He, like Limonelli, is one of those players with a low center of gravity who manage to create a numerical advantage. A great many crosses come from that area of the pitch, also thanks to Capolupo, who has different characteristics, but in general, to be dangerous we need everyone, starting from Micai and the center-backs, who must always start the move well.
Regardless of the result, I always ask my lads to deliver a performance and to make sure our fans can recognize our hunger to go after the opponent. I think that up to now all the lads have given us great satisfaction in this respect. Numerically we now have a few absentees and a few players coming back from periods of inactivity: it’s up to us to manage our resources well and for the lads to be ready, but when there’s this spirit, all difficulties can be overcome.
Bright’s goal is also down to the movement made by Cannavò, and I talked a lot with Durmush about the movements to make, and today the goal came, a goal he really cared about, and I’m very happy for him.
It’s not easy to fully get into the mechanisms we require, especially in certain roles, because it takes time and application, but Jimenez has great qualities and is working very hard: right now I think he’s still at 50% in our mechanisms, but day by day I’m sure he’ll be able to give us that little something extra that we all expect from him.”
