After the great victory at Sambenedettese, coach Marco Turati had this to say in the press conference: “Today I’m satisfied with what we accomplished, with the volume of play we generated, and with the many shots we took. I know Krapikas well; he’s a very strong goalkeeper with outstanding qualities—both technical and personal—and I’m sure he’ll perform very well throughout the season.
Ours is a very young team, full of Under-age players. We did some excellent things today, but we still need to improve—we didn’t close out the game when we had the chance, and in the closing minutes we should have denied them space. But we’re very young, a new group, and we need to take the necessary steps to get to know each other better and grow. There are certainly top-tier teams ahead of us—teams that are already more experienced and possess greater quality and maturity. For our part, we need to keep going like this, enjoy ourselves, and do our best, game after game.
A powerhouse? Our average age is very low. We have players, like Capolupo and Cardinali, who are making their professional debuts, others who have just made their debuts in recent weeks, and yes, there are a few more experienced players, but I know full well that cunning and shrewdness are essential in this sport. We’ve built a completely new team—it’s never easy—but we’ve had to deal with an old group that didn’t follow us, and we’re now bringing the new group together and passing on our knowledge to them.
We’re in that phase of development where we’re missing that one small detail to become dominant. We’re not just lacking up front, but also in the central areas of the field, where we need to understand when to slow down and when to speed up—but it takes patience and hard work, which is exactly what we’re doing. We’re on the right track, and I’m convinced that if we keep this up, in a few weeks we’ll undoubtedly be at an even higher level.”
