After the match in Pescara, President Charlie Stillitano spoke to the media: “I can’t put into words the anger and disappointment I’m feeling right now. I don’t want to focus on individual decisions or incidents, but I can say without hesitation that we got a lot wrong, and the responsibility starts with me because I am the President of this club.
Since the day we arrived, we’ve always said that we are not the owners of this club, but its caretakers. This year, we failed and we let down the people who believed in us, and we are deeply sorry for that. I know the fans don’t need words tonight, they deserve seriousness and respect for the pain and disappointment they are feeling. But I want to tell them that we will start over immediately, learning from the mistakes we made, and throughout all of this, the support of our fans will be fundamental. Right now, though, this is a moment of disappointment, anger, and pain, and I understand that completely.
This is not the time to analyze the season or everything that went wrong, because the wound is still open and bleeding. We need clarity and composure before making those evaluations, and in the coming days we will carefully assess everything together with Tom Roberts, because moments like this require calm, not emotion.
I don’t believe arrogance was ever the issue, because from the very beginning of the season we were fully aware that our primary objective was survival and moving on from the previous campaign, understanding that every season is different. We tried to do our best and contribute in every possible way to help the club recover, but we made mistakes, and ultimately nothing we did was enough. That means the responsibility falls on me first and foremost.
Spezia Calcio is not for sale. Our commitment remains unchanged, and we believe we can start over from scratch, learning from the mistakes we made so we can do what’s best for Spezia and its fans, something we were unable to accomplish this season. Right now, however, our duty is to face this moment head-on, take responsibility, and carefully evaluate the best way forward".
