"Alberto Picco" Stadium: feasibility study and economic and financial plan filed

25 October 2022 - 19:00

Spezia Calcio announces that today it has filed the Economic and Financial Plan (hereinafter referred to as PEF) and the Feasibility Study for the continuation of the modernisation and renovation of the "Alberto Picco" stadium, the design of which has been entrusted to the company GAU Arena, with the aim of creating a modern, sustainable, safe and suitable facility for the needs of the city, in which the team can breathe even more warmth from its supporters.

The multi-year project, which in its first phase saw the renovation of the 'Curva Piscina', inaugurated in September 2021 with a capacity increased to 3,176 seats, will be completed in the summer of 2024 and is functional on the one hand to adapt the stadium to the standards and requirements of the Infrastructure Criteria in force, and on the other hand to the general modernisation of the facility, in order to provide it with the required comforts and services so as to make available to the city and its fans a facility projected towards the future.

In detail, the guidelines of the Stadium renovation project are

- the increase in the number of seats in order to reach the minimum capacity of 12,000;

- the construction of new hospitality areas, the creation of sky boxes and field boxes, as well as new media areas;

- the sustainability of the entire project, with the provision of flexible and multifunctional spaces that can provide high-level services even on non-match days;

- digitalisation, energy sustainability, inclusion and fan engagement strategy.

The list of interventions proposed in the feasibility study, hopes to follow the following timeline:

June-September 2021: renovation of the Curva Piscina (work already carried out);

November-December 2022: completion of the new Curva Piscina by creating new "corners" on either side of the structure built in 2021 and renovation of the toilets in the Distinti sector

summer 2023: renovation and modernisation of the Tribuna and implementation of the following measures:

- construction of a new building behind the Tribuna, which will have media areas inside, a hospitality area on the first floor, as well as some support rooms;

- renovation of the changing rooms floor to make them compliant with the required infrastructural criteria;

- installation of new seats throughout the Tribuna.

In addition, at this stage, the replacement of the seats in the entire Distinti sector and the renovation of the toilets in the Curva Ferrovia is planned.

summer 2024: construction of the roofing for the Curva Ferrovia.

The total investment for the entire project envisaged in the PEF amounts to € 12.2 million, VAT included; in order to guarantee the sustainability of the project and the medium and long term economic-financial balance, in addition to the Club's own resources and recourse to possible financing, a contribution from public bodies will also be required.

In this regard, the Club would like to publicly thank the La Spezia Municipality for its fruitful collaboration and for the important role it has played in supporting the creation and realisation of a project that does not only aim to create a stadium exclusively for sports needs, but that can be a flagship for the entire community, hosting extra-football events for the benefit of the entire La Spezia territory.

We would also like to thank all the consultants and collaborators who worked on the realisation of the project, mainly in this phase represented by Gau Arena for the design phase, ICS Advisory and Piredda & Partners for the advisory and consultancy part of the PEF, and Lawyer Pier Giorgio Leoni for the support provided during the legal assistance phase.

Today's fulfilment represents a further demonstration of the will to strengthen the Club desired by the Ownership, which has among its primary objectives not only the improvement of the structures, but of all areas, starting with the technical one, which is essential to ensure a bright, solid and competitive future, which can make all Spezia Calcio fans proud, who have never failed to give their precious support and who deserve a team and a stadium that live up to their expectations and their century-old history.

Finally, it is specified that in the next few months, should the declaration of 'public utility' be issued by the Municipality of La Spezia in relation to today's presentation, Spezia Calcio will proceed with the filing of the final project and subsequently with all the other necessary fulfilments required by the regulations in force in order to be able to reach the final executive phase
