Spezia Calcio is pleased to announce the signing of a two-year collaboration agreement with Fondazione Theodora, an organization active in Italy since 1995, which every year supports the emotions of over 35,000 hospitalized children and adolescents, and more than 105,000 family members, in 44 pediatric wards in 13 hospitals in 10 cities.
Its 31 Dream Doctors—professional artists specifically trained for the hospital environment—offer individualized and personalized visits through four programs: ward, surgical accompaniment, pediatric hospice, obstetrics, and neonatal pathology. The Foundation selects, trains, and constantly supports the Dream Doctors, ensuring quality, psychological supervision, and completely free interventions for hospitals and families.
The agreement was established on the 30th anniversary of Theodora's founding, with the aim of supporting and promoting the Foundation's activities in the La Spezia area, strengthening the Club's social commitment and promoting joint initiatives for the benefit of young patients and their families.
"Spezia Calcio has always paid special attention to the territory it has the honor of representing and, in particular, to children. Our ongoing collaboration with Sant'Andrea Hospital, which sees us working closely with the Pediatrics, Neonatology, and Obstetrics departments on initiatives such as the Aquilotti si nasce project, dedicated to newborns at the hospital in La Spezia, represents a concrete commitment that we intend to continue and strengthen. The agreement with the Theodora Foundation stems from this spirit: joining forces with an extraordinary organization that brings smiles and moments of lightheartedness to hospitalized children every day. Our social commitment does not stop there: we will continue to do everything possible to lend a hand, according to our means, aware of the value that Spezia Calcio has for the community and the role that football, as a universal language, plays in generating impact and closeness. We are proud and excited to inaugurate this two-year partnership with Fondazione Theodora, and we hope that it will bring many smiles and a touch of serenity to hospitalized children and their families", said Andrea Gazzoli, CEO of Spezia Calcio.
"We are delighted to embark on this two-year partnership with Spezia Calcio, an organization that shares Fondazione Theodora's focus on children and desire to bring them moments of joy, especially in hospital. Thanks to this agreement, we will be able to enhance our presence in Liguria and La Spezia, particularly our activities at the Sant'Andrea hospital in La Spezia, to give children undergoing treatment and their families unique moments of lightheartedness and play. It is a concrete gesture of sensitivity that demonstrates how sport can be a valuable driver of solidarity and closeness," said Emanuela Basso Petrino, Managing Director of the Theodora Foundation.
The partnership between Spezia Calcio and the Theodora Foundation includes events, awareness-raising activities, the involvement of partners and the team, and moments dedicated to the local hospital community, with a view to constant and ongoing commitment.
The first event will be held in the late afternoon of Thursday, November 20, when the collaboration will officially kick off with a special event at the Alberto Picco Stadium, attended by the leaders of the Theodora Foundation, medical staff from Sant'Andrea Hospital in La Spezia and Gaslini Hospital in Genoa, representatives of the Aquilotta First Team, and Spezia Calcio's partners, who are always at the forefront alongside the Club.
