From the training camp in Pontremoli, here are the words of one of Spezia’s new signings, defender Jonathan Spedalieri: “I’m truly happy to be here, at a very important club that also marks an extremely important chapter in my career; the start of the training camp has definitely been positive—we’re working hard, as we should, and everything is going great.
When I got the call from Director Angelozzi, I was on vacation in Spain, and it was a wonderful moment: I didn’t hesitate for even a second, because a club like Spezia is one you can’t keep waiting and can’t turn down.
My strengths? I like to use my physicality and play very aggressively—and that’s perhaps an aspect I need to refine a bit, because sometimes I can be a bit too aggressive; I don’t like conceding goals; I always try to be very attentive and stay in the game at all times, aiming to give our opponents as few chances as possible. Cards? That’s an area I need to improve because a yellow card can affect a match, and I’m definitely working on my mindset in that regard, even though I can’t deny that competitive drive is a fundamental part of who I am as a soccer player.
The coach asks for very few things, but they’re simple and clear; in this first week, we’ve worked on both phases of the game and tried to create situations that allow us to maintain control of the game for as long as possible.
Serie C is a tough league, with many difficult teams to face, but I believe that with hard work every day and a spirit of sacrifice, this team can achieve great success.
A memorable moment in my career? Definitely the first goal I scored as a pro.
We’re a group with many new additions and many players who were already here, but there’s a good atmosphere, and I’m very happy with the team we’re building.
When I was very young, I really admired Samuel; I’ve always appreciated the fighting spirit with which he took the field every time.
Any passions outside the soccer field? I’m passionate about chess; I really enjoy it, and I think it’s a wonderful way to keep the mind sharp.
To our fans, I can say that this year we’ll do everything we can for the sake of this jersey, and that in the end, our hard work will make us even better players than we are today—something I’m sure will bring us great satisfaction.”
