For over ten years, Spezia Calcio has been supporting its women’s program with passion and significant investments of its own, without ever receiving any public funding and going well beyond the obligations imposed by FIGC regulations for professional clubs.
It is a story of concrete commitment—not just words—for all the young women in the region who have chosen to play soccer.
In recent weeks, based on false information, a narrative has emerged regarding the alleged dissolution of the women’s division. A direct conversation with the Club, before taking unfounded rumors as fact, would likely have spared families and the girls unnecessary worry.
Spezia Calcio clarifies, once and for all: the idea of abandoning the division was never even remotely considered. While unfounded statements were circulating, the Club had been working discreetly for weeks to develop a solid and lasting solution.
The result is an agreement with USD Don Bosco Spezia, an organization affiliated with Spezia Calcio as part of the Spezia Academy project—an initiative that was relaunched with determination last season and is set to play an increasingly central role in the Club’s present and future. The Salesian club, with financial and logistical support from Spezia Calcio, will take over management of the entire women’s division—including the First Team—for the upcoming season, ensuring that all the girls have the opportunity to continue pursuing their passion. This model, already adopted by numerous Italian professional clubs, ensures the project’s stability and long-term prospects.
In any case, all the players will continue to wear the Spezia Calcio jersey, a testament to a sense of belonging that remains complete and without exception. The First Team and the Under-17s will also continue to train at the ‘Ferdeghini’ field. The project will be explained in detail as soon as possible to the managers and representatives of the women’s division, who will thus be able to receive all information directly from the Club in an official capacity.
