A press conference was held today at the 'Bruno Ferdeghini' Sports Center for the presentation of Raimonds Krollis, who arrived at Spezia Calcio during the winter market to strengthen coach Gotti's offensive package.
The presentation was introduced by Sporting Director Stefano Melissano: "Today we are here to introduce Raimonds, our striker for the present and the future. He is a Latvian boy with the habit of scoring goals and with many appearances in his national team. When we were talking about him it came easy to us to concretize the negotiation, we know the value of the player and we are very happy to have him here today.
He was being followed by many clubs, Director Macia had been following him for a long time and I had also been paying attention to him last year, so it was easy to bet on him right away; he has the characteristics of a dynamic striker, he can play both as a first and second striker, he is left-handed and has great coolness in front of the goal. We strongly wanted him, we anticipated his arrival to give him time to settle in and be inducted into the Italian Serie A.
The floor was then passed to the main player, Raimonds Krollis, who first wanted to introduce himself to the press by telling about his path before coming to Spezia: "Good morning everyone, I am Raimonds Krollis, I am from Latvia, I am 21 years old, I started my career in Metta, Latvia and then I moved to Valmiera, where I played for two seasons, winning last season the championship, playing as captain and scoring 25 goals, and then I arrived here in the winter market.
No doubt the level between the Latvian league and Serie A is very different, the Italian league is one of the best in the world and every training session is much harder and more intense. I am trying to get into condition as soon as possible, considering the latest period of inactivity due to the conclusion of the Latvian league, but I want to help the team grow and improve and I am looking forward to being able to contribute.
I am a striker who likes to play inside the area, but I can also play as a number ten, although honestly I prefer to play near the goal. My main task is to score goals, it's what I do best and what I want to continue to do here.
I can play any kind of football, in my first team we played defensive football, while at Valmiera the team played more offensive football, but in both cases I got on very well and I am at the disposal of what the coach will ask me.
For me it is a source of great pride to be included in the ranking for the European Golden Shoe, where there are great champions, but now I am focused exclusively on my experience in Italy.
I am not scared of the new league, on the contrary, the pressure stimulates me and pushes me to give a maximum; here I found a more physical and technical dimension, the game is faster and requires more physical effort, but I am ready and I will adapt quickly.
I am not inspired by any particular player, I will say, however, that among the active ones, my favorite strikers are Lewandowski and Kane, while among those who have retired I say Henry.
In Latvia there are not so many players who have played in the top European leagues, so I feel the responsibility for my country, but I repeat, I like the pressure and it stimulates me to do better and better.
Spezia fans are fantastic, we have all been very well received by them, at the stadium I have seen a very warm and passionate atmosphere: I can't wait to reciprocate their support."
