Match Report: Spezia's unbeaten streak under coach Claudio Terzi comes to an end as they succumb to Benevento at the "Ferdeghini" after three consecutive wins.
The Aquilotti began the match with great energy, seizing the lead in the 9th minute as Bertoncini was quick to capitalize on a rebound from a corner kick, following a shot from Ferrazza that struck the post. Spezia came close to extending their advantage in the 20th minute when Ferrazza generated excitement down the flank, but an unfortunate header from Piccioli was thwarted by the crossbar.
In the second half, Benevento equalized amidst protests from the Spezia side over a possible offside position of Francescotti, who scored with a precise diagonal shot in the 63rd minute after receiving the ball from the right. The home team sought to respond, but the Campania side found the back of the net again, taking the lead in the 70th minute as Francescotti outmaneuvered his defender to head in a cross from the right, sealing the match with a final score of 1-2.
Following the match against Benevento, Coach Claudio Terzi reflected on his team’s performance: “We started exceptionally well, showcasing our strengths in the first fifteen minutes, but then we encountered challenges with Benevento's man-to-man pressure, which we anticipated from a well-organized team.
We performed slightly below our capabilities, especially in our defensive play, where we could have done more. After five official matches yielding five victories and commendable performances, it was understandable not to maintain that sharpness in this outing. Once we conceded the equalizer, we needed to regroup effectively because when victory is out of reach, it is crucial to avoid defeat. Unfortunately, we were unable to do that. Such moments are integral to our growth process.
We must acknowledge Benevento, a team that demonstrated superiority today. Now, it’s essential for us to rest and return to action in two weeks with our customary spirit and determination, analyzing today’s shortcomings and striving for an excellent performance in Crotone. I am confident that the players consistently give their best; off days can occur, but there is no need for alarm—let’s roll up our sleeves and focus on our next challenge”.
