Match Report – Coach Terzi’s team suffered an away defeat, unable to build on last week’s home draw against Avellino at the Ferdeghini.
The match began on a positive note for the Aquilotti, who created several scoring chances early on, though they failed to convert. It was Palermo, however, who struck first: in their first real opportunity, Vaccaro found the net in the 6th minute, beating Tortorella to give the home side the lead. The first half ended with Palermo ahead, but Spezia remained very much in the game.
In the second half, despite being down to ten men, Palermo came out with greater intensity and managed to double their lead through Di Mitri, capitalizing during Spezia’s strongest spell of pressure. Near the end of the match, substitute Cassano pulled one back for the visitors, calmly beating Avena to give his team hope. In stoppage time, the Aquilotti came close to leveling the score through Felici, but a brilliant save by Avena sealed the 2–1 win for the home side.
