The second phase of works, focused mainly on the Tribune, saw a major overall modernization of the entire facility, which began with the renovation and expansion of the locker room floor, in order to bring them in line with the required infrastructural criteria, and continued with the construction of a new building, located on two floors behind the Tribune, including media areas on the ground floor and a hospitality area, on the second floor, as well as a terrace on the upper floor, dedicated to press and TV production. In addition, in the second phase, 8 skyboxes with a total of 64 seats and new field boxes were built, the benches were renovated, now integrated into the Tribune sector, the old seats in the Distinti sector were replaced, and a new location was found for TV production, with the new OB-VAN area located in an area in front of the Curva Ferrovia.
The third and final phase of the modernization and renovation of the “Alberto Picco” stadium, which has already begun with the start of the preliminary works, will see the Curva Ferrovia closed to the public from Oct. 19 to Dec. 21, with the stadium resuming its initial conformation as of Dec. 26, 2024, so as to ensure the least possible inconvenience to the La Spezia public.
Below are statements from Spezia Calcio CEO Andrea Gazzoli, La Spezia Mayor Pierluigi Peracchini and Regional Councillor for Infrastructure Giacomo Giampedrone.
“We are very pleased to have kicked off the last part of a project that has radically changed the ‘Alberto Picco’ stadium, projecting it into the future and that with the coverage of the Curva Ferrovia will be even more comfortable for all our passionate fans - states CEO Andrea Gazzoli -. The Ownership has believed in this project from the very first moment and thanks to the synergy with the Liguria Region and the Municipality of La Spezia, we are getting to the bottom of a work that is by no means taken for granted, which shows how when all parties come together, even the most complicated objective can become a reality. The works to cover the Curva Ferrovia have been entrusted to local companies with great experience in the field, and the works have been timed to create as little inconvenience as possible for our fans, allowing us to have our public always close to the team from the beginning of the season, a fundamental and indispensable factor."
“The modernization of the Alberto Picco stadium,” says La Spezia Mayor Pierluigi Peracchini, “takes an important step toward its completion, and with the covering of the Curva Ferrovia we are fulfilling another promise we made to the city and the fans, who will soon be able to have a more attractive and comfortable place to continue cheering on our favorite team. The entire structure is undergoing a thorough renovation, in collaboration with the Region of Liguria and the club, which will make our stadium one of the most beautiful in Italy. Spezia Calcio has a history full of victories and defeats, joys and bitterness, which represents a common heritage. This is why we need to team up to continue our journey, continuing to invest in a jewel of our territory that has great symbolic value for the entire La Spezia community.”
