In the beautiful scenery of "Terre di Luni," guests of the Club's Main Sponsor, Spigas Clienti, the new Aquilotto CEO Andrea Gazzoli was presented this afternoon, introduced by the words of President Philip Platek Jr. "Gazzoli is the right person to help Spezia Calcio grow, because he is an experienced professional, has a solid financial background and the skills to follow various aspects and investments, such as the renovation works of the "Alberto Picco" stadium. As Ownership, we believe it is important to have a CEO who is present full-time at La Spezia to oversee day-to-day operations, communicate the Club's strategic vision and develop initiatives for fan engagement".
This is followed by the words of the new CEO of the Eagles, Andrea Gazzoli: "I am very proud to be here today and I thank the Platek family and the Board of Directors for placing great trust in me; I feel the great responsibility of representing a Club as important as Spezia Calcio and I really feel this new position inside. We have sporting, economic and social challenges ahead of us, because La Spezia represents an entire territory and beyond on the field, it will be our task to create the right synergy with the territory we have the honor of representing. On this occasion, I also want to dedicate a thought to the fans, whom I have already had the opportunity to meet and to whom I want to promise availability and h24 commitment for the good of this Club, as I have done until today, also considering the important works that are taking place in our stadium. I am convinced that great things can be done here and now more than ever it will be essential to unite around our team.
How do you start over after a relegation? Surely it is important to reset everything that has been in order to start again with enthusiasm. The passion of the square here is tangible, and even the recent events are a symptom of a deep love for the white jersey, and for our part we can do nothing but work hard to get back up right away, putting effort and sacrifice into every aspect concerning the club.
The financial sphere in general is never an easy subject to explain, especially in the world of soccer, but we can start by saying that sustainability in soccer does not exist, especially in Italy; Spezia, however, has taken a clear path, as demonstrated also by the investments in the stadium made together with the Municipality of La Spezia and the Region of Liguria, and can get to the point of limiting negative situations, but thinking about financial sustainability and profit in Italian soccer, is really complicated.
I already knew Eduardo Macia from my Fiorentina days and also Stefano Melissano because of the operation that brought Salvatore Esposito to the white jersey in January, and I think they are two very good professionals; it is clear that especially after a relegation, with several changes, including some rules of the league, it takes some time and work to start again, but there is great confidence.
What are the club's plans locally? Spezia Calcio is a story to be told, a culture to be passed on, and to start with, we are already working on initiatives dedicated to younger people, also because the renovated "Picco" will allow us to tell the story of this club even better, starting of course with the Scudetto won in 1944, a fantastic story and one of the most romantic pages of Italian soccer.
We have to work to find a synthesis between the field, the economic side, the desires of Ownership and territorial rootedness: we will try to continue on this path and improve every day".
