A wonderful goal from Pio Esposito, who shared his thoughts after the match: “Over the past two years, I’ve had the chance to watch Salvatore take free kicks, and it’s something I’ve always liked. I’ve been working on them for a while, trying to really make it one of my strengths. Today I had the chance to take one, and it went well. I’m really happy, especially because I had a feeling about it and I really wanted to take it after winning the foul.
The team played a perfect match today. In the first half, we were the only ones attacking, and then in the second half, we scored twice right away, on Catanzaro’s home turf, which is one of the toughest venues in the league. Personally, I was a bit off in the first half because they doubled up on both strikers, but in the second half, the spaces opened up and I was able to get into the game more.
It’s not over yet, because in matches like these, the regular-season standings don’t mean anything. Every playoff game is a story of its own, so we need to stay fully focused and approach the return leg the same way we did the first.
I’m very proud to be the third player in Europe born after 2004 to reach 20+ goals and assists this season, especially knowing how much work I put in after a really tough year last year. Honestly, no one probably expected me to have a season like this, and that just makes me even prouder. Still, I wouldn’t compare myself to the big names, those guys have done it in top leagues.
Now we’ve got a battle waiting for us at the Picco, and we want to go out there and earn the spot in the final that we deserve. I also want to thank the fans who traveled thirteen hours by bus to be with us in Catanzaro. We’ll see them again on Sunday at home".
