Spezia Calcio announces the permanent acquisition of goalkeeper Leandro Chichizola from Parma Calcio 1913. The Argentine goalkeeper has signed a contract until June 30, 2025, with an option for renewal upon the fulfillment of certain conditions.
Born in 1990, Chichizola makes a much-anticipated return to the Gulf of Poets, where he previously defended the Eagles' goal for three seasons during his first European experience. He first made a name for himself at River Plate, where in 2014 he starred in the Final tournament, saving a crucial penalty in the 92nd minute against Racing in a Monumental stadium that was nothing short of electric.
From there, he moved to La Spezia, where between 2014 and 2017, he never missed a minute across league, Coppa Italia, and Playoff matches, accumulating 141 consecutive appearances and winning the hearts of all Spezia supporters. He was even named Aquilotto Reale of the 2015-2016 season.
After leaving the Gulf of Poets, Chichizola played in La Liga with Las Palmas and Getafe, making his European debut in the Europa League. He then continued his career with Cartagena, Perugia, and Parma, where he played a pivotal role in the club's return to Serie A and made his top-flight debut in a match against Udinese.
Argentine by birth, but with a heart that beats for Spezia, Chichizola is ready to return to the Eagles' fold and celebrate with the Spezia faithful wearing the number 23 shirt.
Welcome back, Chichi!
