At the end of the draw against Latina, Alessandro Micai spoke:
“You can’t always win. Obviously we wanted to get the tenth win in a row, so there is regret, but today we faced a Latina side that brought a lot of intensity and was good at steering the match toward its own strengths. We fought, we answered foul for foul, and that is what we take home after today’s game: Spezia also knows how to fight.
Today I got annoyed, which is not like me, but I felt that, especially in the second half, the game was deliberately broken up by our opponents, because Latina knew they could struggle in a different kind of match. But we know that’s how Serie C is, and from today we have understood it even better: you have to stay lucid and calm, without being dragged along by the opponents.
The sending-off was a bit of a cold shower, but that must not make us abandon the game plan. Instead, we must be able to adjust immediately, which we didn’t do, and I take the blame first and foremost. We were good at getting organized after conceding the goal, bringing the match back to our side, but we should have been able to do it straight away.
I always try to see the positive side, and today we put in a tough performance, fighting for every ball. Even though we complicated things ourselves, we managed to stay in the game and take home a point, which never hurts.
Di Serio? He is a grown man and understands that he did something foolish; neither I nor the coach need to tell him. When a group wants to achieve a goal, everyone is needed, and sometimes one individual’s performance can change the game. Now he has to roll up his sleeves and go back to doing what he knows how to do, as he did during the first half. I don’t know if it was a gesture of frustration, but certain mistakes from someone as experienced as him leave a bit of a bitter taste, because he is an intelligent lad, and losing him for several matches then becomes a problem and it’s even more disappointing.”
