At the end of the first match of the season, head coach Marco Turati had this to say: "I don’t think it was realistic to expect more from these guys after just six practices. They gave it their all and worked hard, but in the end, it’s normal to feel the fatigue from the heavy workload. The important thing was to see the team follow instructions, and that’s exactly what happened—and that’s what matters in these early-season games.
It’s certainly never easy to change methodology and playing style, so it’s normal that there were some difficulties in the first few training sessions, but I found the players to be very receptive because even today they showed me they’re capable of doing some very interesting things. We’re just a little disappointed because we definitely could have scored a lot more, but in any case, we’re very satisfied with the training session we had.
We really like to isolate the wingers who excel in one-on-one situations, and today—especially in the first half—both Cannavò and Cardinali performed very well in both phases of play and definitely sent me an important signal.
We have a very deep roster, but fortunately, the Director has provided me with a large and well-prepared staff, and everything is going as well as possible: the first few days of training camp have been very satisfying.”
