Spezia Calcio is holding another player presentation, and today it’s the turn of Joselito, the Spanish midfielder who has joined the White Shirts on a permanent transfer from Perugia: “My first impression of this new environment was wonderful, because I knew Spezia was a very important club, and when the call came, I didn’t hesitate for a moment.
I grew up playing a style of soccer that demands personality when handling the ball, and I’m really getting along well with Coach Turati because his style of play is very similar to the Spanish one.
There are a lot of new guys who’ve already played in Serie C; obviously, we share our experiences, but in reality, we’re all very focused on working hard every day on the field and not thinking about the opponents we’ll face—we just have to focus on ourselves.
My first few months in Italy were intense; I had to learn the language quickly, even though the differences from Spanish aren’t that stark, but I didn’t have any teammates who could help me with that. From a soccer standpoint, I found the game to be more tactical and physical, but I worked hard and adapted quickly.
Among the reasons that convinced me to choose Spezia are definitely the fans and the style of play that Coach Turati wants to implement; I’m a technical player who enjoys taking on responsibility and really loves playing alongside my teammates.
Where do I think I can improve? You can learn something new every day, and you should never take anything for granted. Since arriving in Italy, I’ve made significant gains in muscle mass, while in these first few weeks Coach Turati has been placing a strong emphasis on body positioning, and I’m working hard on that aspect.
I come from a city where the passion for soccer is immense, and I knew I’d find the same atmosphere here, so as soon as I arrived in town, I went straight to the stadium because I really wanted to see the “Picco” in person.
My celebration? It’s dedicated to my grandparents, who are no longer with us.
The trust I’ve felt from the very beginning has been truly wonderful, and I think that for a soccer player, it’s a fundamental element for performing at my best.
Who is Joselito off the field? I’ve been away from home since I was 16, and I try to approach this wonderful job with great professionalism; maybe I’m a bit of a stickler, but I think recovery is a fundamental part of a soccer player’s routine, and I’m very particular about that as well. Of course, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, but I devote a lot of time to paying attention to the details.
Spain’s victory? It was a wonderful evening spent with my teammates and also with Coach Turati’s assistant, Fernando Spinelli, who is Argentine—and we joked a bit about that.
A message for the fans? I can only ask that you always stand by us, because I’m sure that if we stay united, we can achieve great things together.”
