The synergy between Spezia Calcio and local schools continues this year, as defender Giuseppe Aurelio visited the "D. Alighieri" Middle School this morning. He was warmly welcomed by first-year students, officially kicking off the 2024-2025 season's initiatives that bring the club closer to schools. These events will feature not only the players but also the Alberto Picco Stadium, which will host the "Schools at the Picco" program. This initiative offers special visits where students will learn about the club's history, current affairs, and social topics relevant to the local area and beyond, thanks to partnerships with ANED, Fitram, and the support of the Municipality of La Spezia.
The students enthusiastically asked Aurelio numerous questions, covering a wide range of topics—from family life and the sacrifices required to become a professional footballer to his football idols, the thrill of scoring his first Serie B goal, and social issues like bullying. Aurelio addressed each topic candidly, particularly emphasizing his stance on bullying.
"I’ve never liked bullies and have always done my best to protect those being targeted," said the defender. "You should also stand united to ensure bullies lose their power. Unity is strength, and no one should be left behind. I left home at a very young age, and while it was challenging at first, I have a fantastic family that has always supported me. Their constant encouragement helped me build the inner strength needed to overcome challenges, both in sports and in life.
"School? I liked math and studied accounting, and I even considered pursuing university studies, which would have been an additional sacrifice given the demands of a footballer’s life—but not impossible. The life of a professional is not all glamour and applause. It requires discipline, determination, and a spirit of sacrifice, as many off-field sacrifices are necessary to experience the emotions we feel every weekend.
"Spezia? We have a united, strong group, and I’m truly proud to be here and wear the white jersey. Just walking around the city, you can feel how much Spezia means to its people. It’s an honor, and I’m determined, along with my teammates, to repay this affection with everything we have."
The visit concluded with a lively autograph session, where young fans eagerly met the defender, collected autographs on their belongings, and received club-themed gifts distributed by Spezia Calcio to make the occasion even more memorable.
