Donadoni: "Two matches in four days, but tomorrow we'll have to give it our all on the pitch"

On the eve of Spezia-Entella, manager Roberto Donadoni spoke to the press room microphones: "We trained well this week. We knew we had played well but hadn't got anything out of it, so we'll have to channel this positive energy to get a result tomorrow, trying to be more clinical in front of goal.

Regarding Verde's departure, I spoke to him yesterday. He decided to take this opportunity, and when a player makes a clear choice, you have no choice but to accept it. I wish him all the best. Obviously, we are losing a player who, given his characteristics, we don't have in our squad today, but I must say that the club has done very well in the transfer market. Now it's up to us to try to steer the new players in the right direction, to help them understand our philosophy, but I feel that we have acquired players who are very positive in this regard. Now that the transfer market is closed, we need to start afresh and focus solely on picking up points.

Beyond the formation, I believe that the important thing is to know how to move well on the pitch: you can start with a formation, but then you have to be good at adapting to your opponents and developing your game depending on how the teams are positioned on the pitch. We have players who can be midfielders, but who can also act more like forwards in attack; it is important to find this ability to adapt, because it can create unpredictability and therefore great difficulty for your opponents. I believe it is always better to work on your own abilities rather than thinking too much about your opponents' abilities.

Skjellerup has joined us in attack and has already had three training sessions with us, but we can already see that he is a lad with a great desire to do well. Due to his past, he is not yet in a position to play 90 minutes, but we are very happy to integrate him and will soon understand his ability to support the team. Lapadula and Bandinelli are recovering, so we hope to have them back in the squad soon.

When you can't take home the victory, it's also important to leave the pitch without a defeat. I think the match at Marassi teaches us a lesson in this regard, which should lead us to bring out that healthy aggression that allows you to not succumb to your opponent, even when you can't prevail. We obviously have to make sure that this doesn't happen again.

Against Sampdoria, we handled the goal badly. We were all in the penalty area, without considering that there were some players free outside the area. In those cases, you have to be good at reading all the possibilities. These are all things that you have to learn and use for future opportunities.

This week, I've seen everyone on the ball, which I like. I like that there's great competition between the players, underpinned by a great friendship. The fact that one player does something extra in training motivates the others to improve too. We have two games in four days, so we'll have to be good at distributing our energy. I told the lads this morning that we have to be aware that we have two games in a short space of time, but tomorrow I want everyone who takes to the pitch to give it their all.

The mistake we must not make is to think that Entella play differently away from home than they do at home. We need to approach the game with great respect and be fully aware of our capabilities. It will be tough, as the first leg showed us, and tomorrow will certainly be no different. Statistics are interesting up to a point, but we need to focus on running and getting points, that's all".
