On the eve of Avellino–Spezia, head coach Roberto Donadoni spoke to the media: “In Palermo we put in a good performance despite a negative result. Conceding a goal after 10 seconds isn’t easy for anyone, but the reaction was there and the spirit didn’t drop. Now, though, we need to give continuity to both performances and results, because putting together two or three positive results in a row really helps change momentum.
Transfer-window weeks are always peculiar, with players coming and going, but what must never be missing is presence on the pitch and the right attitude. That’s what I’ve been stressing to the lads, and we’re ready for the challenge that awaits us tomorrow.
There always has to be the desire to play and get a result. When you’re hesitant or passive, the overall performance suffers. The positive takeaway from Palermo was precisely the attitude and the hunger shown, and of course the new arrivals, who don’t carry the negativity from the first part of the season, can help the rest of the group shake off doubts and lingering fears.
Artistico? He’s a player I absolutely take into consideration because he has great desire and determination. Of course, he still has things to refine and room to grow, but he’s very mature and eager to improve through work. In terms of commitment, he’s certainly among the most positive.
We hope to have Lapadula back running next week. As for the rest, we’ve recovered both Hristov and Bandinelli.
I wouldn’t say there are drops in concentration during matches, but rather that excessive concern can sometimes lead to a lack of clarity in reading situations and being less reactive in anticipating opponents’ moves. It’s a block linked to too much fear, but as I’ve said before, fear shouldn’t be negative, it should be a stimulus to be even more attentive and reactive.
We’re considering bringing someone in, especially after Kouda’s departure, as well as potentially in defence, but we’ll see what’s possible between now and the end of the window. For now, our focus must be fully on tomorrow’s match. Up front we have players with similar profiles; perhaps we need something different in terms of characteristics.
Wisniewski? It’s normal for an open transfer window to be a bit distracting for anyone, which is why I can’t wait for this session to end and I think that’s true for all coaches.
Valoti? He brings experience and an important résumé, but he hadn’t played at all earlier this season at Cremonese. It’s up to us to help him find the right rhythm.
Romano? He’s a player with excellent potential. I really like the way he plays and interprets the role, and I’m sure he’ll give us a big hand until the end of the season.
Avellino? We’ll be playing in front of our supporters, which is always extra motivation to give our all. It’s never nice to see fans travel so far to support their team and return home without the satisfaction of a result. Tomorrow we need to take the pitch convinced of what we’ve worked on during the week. If we can channel all our energy and effort in that direction, we can bounce back and give our fans something to cheer about.
Verde? He’s training consistently with the group and maintaining continuity in his work. He has above-average technical quality and characteristics that can be very useful. That’s why I brought him on in Palermo, to try to create numerical superiority in attack. He’s been on the fringes for a while, but he has solid experience. I expect more from him than what we’ve seen so far, and if he has that desire, he’ll certainly be very useful to us".
