Head coach Roberto Donadoni spoke after the match at the Barbera: “It’s frustrating not to get any points, but we started the game with a big setback, conceding a goal just a few seconds in. After that, though, we put in a good performance. We know the quality of Palermo and where they sit in the standings, but today, despite the loss, that gap was less noticeable. In certain moments we needed a bit more focus and determination to make the most of the chances we created; with a little more sharpness, we might have scored the goal we were missing.
The match was evenly balanced throughout. We managed the ball well and created plenty of chances. There were also several offside situations that, with a bit more attention, we could have exploited better. The response on the pitch was positive, even if perhaps some of the substitutes could have had a bigger impact. What matters today is taking the positives and turning them into momentum for the next game.
The new signings performed well, those who started, and Romano coming off the bench, showing the right attitude and determination. We also had two very young players on the field today; they’ll certainly have room to grow and can become good players, if not very good ones.”
