Coach Luca D’Angelo’s comments after the season opener: "I haven’t watched the penalty episode back, so it’s hard for me to judge, but given that VAR reviewed it, I believe it was the right call. We started well, but then we got stretched, and the opponents countered effectively. They were dangerous with the chance that hit the crossbar, while we had a goal-scoring opportunity cleared off the line. Then came the red card and the penalty, but we held on well in the second half. Schiavi’s second goal, though, sealed the game.
As for the transfer market, a defeat cannot dictate our decisions. We were certainly short today, and Artistico only returned this morning after three days with a fever. The club knows where it needs to strengthen. On top of that, we have several injured players whose returns will be crucial, and that’s no small factor. Vlahovic, Aurelio, Vignali, Bandinelli, and Sarr were all out today, not to mention Cassata, who made his return, and Zurkowski, who’s still working his way back to full fitness. On match day, it’s not right to point fingers at the players we do have, they’re good players. We need to understand that we have to play our game. The effort was there today, but Carrarese were quicker to the ball. We need to reproduce what we know how to do, bringing the right intensity, as we’ve always done.
Soleri and Cistana? I substituted Soleri because at that point I needed to alternate between the two strikers, he hadn’t played for a while, and Artistico had just come back from a fever. As for Cistana, after we went down to ten men, I needed an extra midfielder.
Candela? He did his part. He’s at his best on the right side, but he still played his game. If we lost, it wasn’t because of individual mistakes, it was a team issue, like getting too nervous, which was wrong because yellow cards weigh heavily over the course of a match.
The transfer window during the season? It would be better if it closed a week before the league starts, but the rule is the same for everyone, so we can’t use that as an excuse.
Defeats are never healthy, when you lose, you lose, it’s not some kind of lesson. It just makes clear that the season has started and we need to push".
