Following the match against Reggiana, Spezia head coach Luca D'Angelo spoke to the press: “We did well in the first 35 minutes, we should have scored more and could have, but instead we went into halftime level. In the second half, we weren’t effective in applying the countermeasures we know how to use, and although we didn’t deserve to lose, we ultimately came away with nothing.
In a country governed by the rule of law, when decent people are prevented from traveling and attending a match, something is clearly not working. Spezia’s supporters have been unable to follow the team on three separate occasions this season, and I’m not sure how many other clubs have faced the same. I’m certain our fans would’ve made a big difference today, but the reasons for the result lie elsewhere.
There were no physical issues, the team pushed until the very end. Just a week ago in Frosinone, we came back from two goals down. What we needed today was more composure.
As for playing all matches at the same time, I won’t repeat myself, but I don’t agree with the decision not to stick to the schedule. That said, I doubt those at the top of the game are concerned about my opinion.
We were too frantic in the second half and didn’t show our usual organization. Coming off the bench in a match like this is never easy, it was a very stop-start game, and that makes it even harder for substitutes to make an impact.
I haven’t had a chance to rewatch the goals we conceded, but we’ve certainly been letting in a few too many lately. That said, we still have the best defensive record in the league and remain the team that concedes the fewest goals. We need to get back to what has been one of our biggest strengths this season.
We lost Bertola during warm-up, and Mateju wasn’t at 100%, so we opted to play Vignali as the third center-back, and he did well. During the game, I tried to bring on as many attacking options as possible, but we still weren’t sharp enough in the final third".
