Speaking from the training camp in Santa Cristina, coach Luca D’Angelo shared his thoughts after the first morning session: “You can tell the players were professional over the brea, they followed the training programs we gave them. Now that we’ve started back up, we need to approach this with real enthusiasm, because we have the chance to enjoy a great season. The club is fully behind us, and we have a passionate fan base that always shows us their support.
How important is the group? Over the past two years, our success has come from one key factor: the sense of calm that’s never left us, even in tough moments. This year, we need to stick to the same approach, staying united, composed, and ready to work hard.
The training camp plan? The methods might change, but the core purpose stays the same: first, getting ourselves physically ready, and then focusing on technical and tactical work.
The new players? These are players we’ve been following since last season. Hopefully, they can help us and settle in quickly, both on and off the field. From what I’ve seen so far, the first impressions are definitely positive.
Sarr and Zurkowski? Both are back training with the team. Physically, they’re ready. Zurkowski might need to rebuild some confidence after a difficult season, especially with injuries, while Sarr is already in good shape. They’re both true professionals, and I’m confident they’ll be more than ready when the season kicks off.
I think everyone here needs to raise the bar, not because we finished third or made the final, even though we fell just short, but because in sports, your goal should always be to improve.
There are also new faces on the staff, like Roberto Alberti and Luca Mora. Roberto and I go way back, we were teammates many years ago, he even coached me, and we’ve stayed close for almost 30 years now. He’s a true football man and someone I’ve always worked well with, both personally and professionally. As for Luca Mora, he played under me for three years. He’s a smart guy with the right mindset for this job, knowledgeable and with real personality. I’m very happy to have both of them on board.
As for my players, my message stays the same: enthusiasm is key, and we need to fuel it every day. Last season shouldn’t be forgotten, it brought us some incredible moments, nearly all of them positive. It was an exceptional year, not just for the results, but because we reconnected the entire Spezia fanbase with the team after relegation and a tough survival battle. I know season ticket sales are going very well, so we need to build on that energy and fill the Picco again, just like last season. As always, I’m sure we’ll do our part, starting from these early days in training camp".
