Mister Luca D’Angelo’s post-match comments following the home clash against Catanzaro: "We didn’t deserve to lose because we created plenty of chances, both in the first 35 minutes and throughout the second half. Even when down to ten men, we kept pushing, but that’s football, we can only look ahead to the next match.
Several players had been struggling with fever all week, some, like Cassata, didn’t recover in time, while others made it at the last minute. Then Vignali wasn’t at his best after the final training session, but these are situations that come with the game.
We were also without Elia and Bertola, so we had some issues on the right side, but I think Reca handled that role very well.
Lapadula’s red card? The ball was bouncing on the goal line, and he went in aggressively trying to score, but in Italy there’s a completely wrong approach to VAR, referees are called back for the slightest contact when they should be assessing the overall play. Unfortunately, in general, VAR is not used correctly here in Italy.
The support from our fans, before, during, and after the match, was truly appreciated, highlights the team’s performance, which was more than solid in every aspect. This group always fights and never gives up, not even after a defeat. Now, we need to get some players back to full fitness and prepare as best as possible for Friday night’s match.
Bandinelli? He was booked just 20 seconds in, maybe that situation could’ve been read differently since the match had barely started. I think it was a harsh decision.
We have strong one-on-one defenders, and we try to maintain high intensity and battle for every ball. Of course, a team like Catanzaro will create chances, but defensively, we did very well again, I can’t recall our goalkeeper having to make a save.
Di Serio? He was in good shape; otherwise, he wouldn’t have started. The decision was based on what we expected from Catanzaro, a high defensive line. Instead, they sat deep, limiting his space to attack in behind. That’s why we made the substitution; it wasn’t a negative judgment on him. We simply opted for a penalty-box striker like Lapadula.
Today’s officiating? At halftime, I told the referee he might have been a bit too strict, after 20 minutes we already had four bookings. But beyond that, I have nothing to add and I will also never comment on what happens in other matches; I wouldn’t want others doing it about us, and I won’t do it about them".
