Following Spezia’s 5–0 win over Gherdëina in their preseason opener, head coach Luca D’Angelo offered his thoughts on the match: “Up to this point, all our sessions have been on smaller pitches, so this was the first time we played on a full-sized field, and it was important for the players to start gradually rediscovering their positioning and spacing.
Here in Val Gardena, we’re training twice a day, morning and afternoon, and the team is responding well. It’s a group that’s used to working hard. Of course, it’s normal to feel a bit of physical fatigue at this stage, and that’s something we’re focusing on a lot.
The new arrivals? Together with Gazzoli and Melissano, we made clear and deliberate choices, bringing in players like Artistico and Vlahovic, both of whom we’ve been following for a while, knowing that Pio Esposito’s loan was set to expire at the end of the season. They’re players who fit our style of play and bring the right mindset to improve day in and day out.
As for the younger players, we’ve brought in many from the Primavera, and for several of them this is their first senior training camp. It’s not easy for them physically, but this stage is an important part of their growth. They’ll have opportunities to improve by continuing to work both with us and with Claudio Terzi’s Primavera squad.
Zurkowski is a strong player, he’s no longer feeling any pain in his knee, he’s doing well, and he’s fully recovered from a football standpoint. Soleri is following his recovery plan, and he’s picked up the pace in recent days. If everything goes according to plan, he should be ready for the start of the season.
As for the transfer market, the departures of Reca and Bertola have left gaps in their positions, but what matters most is making the right choices without rushing things. The club is working on that.
On Sunday we’ll face Lecce, and while our main focus will continue to be on fitness, tactics, and technique, of course, once you step on the field, you always want to get a result".
