One thing is certain: we must never make the mistake of drawing comparisons. Let’s remember that last year we weren’t among the favorites, yet we came within 90 minutes of promotion to Serie A. Every season is unique, and balance is essential.
All teams start on equal footing. I repeat, we must never compare one season to another, that would be a serious mistake. Serie B is a very difficult and particular league, where it’s not unusual for highly-rated teams to struggle. We need to focus on one match at a time. Now our attention turns to Sampdoria, and after that it will be time to think about Carrarese.
We’re using this summer period to work on different alternatives, but the foundation remains the same. Variations are possible so that we’re never caught unprepared and can handle every situation.
Comotto? He’s very young, experiencing his first senior locker room, and the gap between the Primavera and Serie B is significant. He certainly has good qualities, but I’ve been reading a lot in the press about him, and I don’t believe the amount of coverage he’s been getting is helping him. In my opinion, the spotlight should be switched off for now so that he can grow calmly and without pressure. Let’s not forget that we have many midfielders with plenty of experience. He’s here to complete the unit, but he shouldn’t be put under the spotlight or burdened with unnecessary pressure or expectations.
Di Serio? He provides extremely valuable work for the team, regardless of the goals he scores. Zurkowski? He can easily play as a wing-back, and given that we’re not overflowing with options in that role at the moment, it’s a solution we can adopt. He’s happy to do it, especially since he has the quality, physicality, and endurance required.
During this stage of preparation, it’s always difficult to assess performances, as individual fitness levels vary, the approach to matches can’t be the same as in official competitions, and the pace is different. But these games have certainly been good training sessions, which is exactly what we wanted.
Vlahovic? I don’t think we’ll risk him for the Coppa Italia, but I’m confident we’ll have him back for the Carrarese match.
