Following the match against Carrarese, head coach Luca D'Angelo commented on the team’s performance: “We started well, creating the first big chance of the match, but right after that we conceded, and from that moment we showed some mental fragility. We then allowed a second goal and missed a penalty with Abiuso. We shouldn’t have lost our shape, the match was still long.
The second goal? We had six players attacking the ball and three positioned outside the box, with two players on the edge and Mateju deeper. We lost a duel, and Carrarese did well to take advantage of a situation that’s one of their main strengths.
Three red cards? Valoti was going for the ball, so there’s not much I can say. I didn’t get a clear view of what happened with Adamo, while Bonfanti raised his elbow, they should have avoided those situations. The season isn’t over, and going into the next match without three players is far from ideal.
I still believe we can do it, because the team never lacks effort, both during the week and in matches. Of course, if we’re in this position in the standings at this stage, it means we all have our limitations and no one is without blame. Not many people believe in it now, because the situation is clearly difficult, but I’m convinced we can achieve survival. Now we need to stay focused, recover our energy, and we’ll be able to count on our fans at home, together, we can stay in Serie B.
The next five matches will be the most important of our careers, there’s nothing more to add. At the start of the season, we all had different ambitions, but we’ve shown we’re not the best, and now everything will be decided in these upcoming games.
I’m always honest, and if things don’t go well in the end, I’ll certainly be among those most responsible. That’s something to address once everything is settled. Right now, we still have a chance to change a fate that today seems almost sealed. At the start of the match, I was very pleased with our approach, we weren’t affected by a hostile environment, but the missed chance seemed to weigh on us more than motivate us, and then we conceded from a set piece. We didn’t play well in the final part of the first half, and I regret that because we should have built on our good performance. The same goes after making it 2–1, we had time to equalize, but after the third goal it became very difficult.
Too many counterattacks conceded? Carrarese are very strong in those situations. We had initially planned some precautions, but we stretched too much, and against a team that’s so effective in transition, it became much more complicated".
