Two days ahead of the away match against Südtirol, Spezia head coach Luca D’Angelo shared his thoughts on the team’s current form: “After the game against Catanzaro, we reviewed the footage of the game and it was a well-played match, though we need to make better use of our dominance. We control the game, but in the last two matches, that control hasn’t translated into goals, which is ultimately the essence of football. That said, the team showed the right level of determination throughout the match.
I haven’t seen any nervousness in the team, we play attacking football, and if nervousness is being linked to the number of bookings we received in the last match, I’d say we need to look at the reasons behind them. In every case, I didn’t see anything that suggested nerves.
There are eleven matches left, and every single one is hugely important. Last year, when we faced Venezia in the return leg, we had only one possible outcome. Right now, with so many matches to go, we’re not in that situation.
We create plenty of scoring chances, we have the third-best attack in the league, which means the goals are coming, and they will keep coming. The team is in great shape and playing football I really like: attacking with numbers and defending well. We’re in excellent form, and we need to keep it that way.
Our midfielders bring a mix of high pressing, strength, intensity, and strong passing ability. And again, the numbers show we score a lot. We play a very dynamic 3-5-2 and rotate our players frequently. Candelari is someone I value highly, and he could definitely be involved, though he hasn’t been at his best this week.
I believe a coach should always focus on the game itself and not comment on refereeing decisions, as that can be destabilizing. So, once again, we are staying focused on the pitch.
Fortunately, I can assess our performances beyond just the results. The numbers confirm that we’re doing very well in terms of both play and overall performance. The stats indicate we should have even more points than we currently do, and we already have quite a few. So, I have full confidence in our ability to perform in the matches ahead.
We know we’re facing a strong and in-form opponent. We understand the type of game to expect and the challenges ahead. Of course, every match is different, the opposition may adjust, and the context is not the same as in the first meeting.
Esposito and Kouda as starters? It’s one of many attacking options available to us. Both are in good shape.
Cassata and Nagy are available, we’ll see if they start or come in during the match. Nagy has been out for a while, but he’s been training with the team for a week now. Cassata had a bad fever but has fully recovered. We’ll evaluate our choices for both of them.
Will bookings influence my lineup decisions? No, that’s not a factor. We have a competitive squad capable of handling these situations.
Are there fixed goalkeeping hierarchies? Nothing in football is ever set in stone.
Could Colak be an option up front? Absolutely, he’s one of the possibilities we’re considering".
