After a fantastic derby win over Pisa, Spezia head coach Luca D’Angelo shared his thoughts on the team’s performance: “The first half was evenly balanced, and when Esposito scored the equalizer, I thought Pisa might struggle mentally. But instead, they came out strong after the break and immediately found the net, turning the game around. Even so, we managed to regroup and put in a great second half against a very strong team.
The two sides are quite similar, and physically, they held up really well today. That said, our biggest strength was keeping our composure even after their second goal. Once we made it 2-2, you could feel we had a real chance to take the lead, especially with the incredible support from the crowd.
Now, we need to focus solely on the next match and try to get a result in Cesena. We’ll train well this week and aim for all three points in our next away game, without looking too far ahead.
As I mentioned, the energy from the fans gave us a huge boost. It was a match played with intensity, grit, and battles for second balls. And having the entire second half played under the Ferrovia end only pushed us further.
In the first half, Pisa defended well, staying well-organized and breaking forward with speed and strength. After the break, we knew we had to push for the win, and once we equalized, we played a fantastic game, freeing ourselves from the tension of the first half.
The team is playing well, and to be honest, this was the toughest home match we’ve had so far—and we won it. Against Palermo and Catanzaro, we put in great performances but only walked away with a single point. Today was a physically demanding, high-intensity match, and getting the win was huge for us.
I noticed Wisniewski was struggling a bit in the first half, but he proved me wrong with that decisive goal.
Again, this is a team that went through a tough road last season and has come out stronger because of it. We were on the brink of disaster last year, and I’d like to remind everyone that eight or nine of our starting eleven each week were with us through that. That kind of continuity builds unity, and even in difficult moments, this team knows how to respond.
Lapadula might have been the best player on the pitch today. He battled, worked tirelessly for the team, and showed great personality against a very strong Pisa defense.
There are nine games left, and we have to keep working as we have been. The only thing that matters is focusing on our own matches, and we’ll see where we stand at the end of the season".
