D’Angelo: “A tough match awaits, but we want to finish our season in the best possible way”

Two days out from the home match against Salernitana, Spezia head coach Luca D’Angelo shared his thoughts on the team’s current form: “The team put in a very good performance in Frosinone, especially in the second half. Coming back from behind wasn’t easy or a given, and in the end we probably deserved even more. But it has often happened this season that we’ve come away from away matches with less than we actually earned.

Vignali? He’s feeling well, he got back on the pitch in Frosinone, and we’ll decide whether to start him or bring him on during the match against Salernitana.

In football, you can’t rely on calculations, you have to focus on playing your game at the highest level, and that will also be the case against Salernitana. It’ll be a tough match against a team in good form that needs points. We know it won’t be easy, but we’re very determined to win because it would be important for our position in the standings and for closing out this remarkable season in the best possible way.

We always defend the same way when we don’t have the ball. In Frosinone, we knew there was a risk of getting caught on the break, but the defenders held up well, we conceded only three shots on goal, and the first goal came from a corner kick.

We’re fully focused on Salernitana for now. After that, we’ll turn our attention to Reggiana. With such a short turnaround between games, the entire squad will be important, just like it was in Frosinone when we had to fight back for a result.

Bertola? He gives us more options thanks to his versatility, we know we can rely on him even in midfield.

Candelari? Among players born in 2005, he’s one of the most used in the league, and he’ll have opportunities in the upcoming matches as well. In general, if I believe a player can help the team, I’ll field him regardless of his age.

Daniele Verde is a fantastic player and a wonderful person. I’ll give him a hug before and after the match, last season he was a key figure in helping us secure safety.

From an organizational standpoint, there have been many changes this season, but the players have been exemplary. Thanks to the support of the Club’s executives, they’ve always managed to give their best and stay focused, without being distracted by speculation or uncertainty that could have easily crept in.

Sassuolo, Pisa, and Spezia did not all start from the same point, that must not be forgotten. That said, full credit goes to them for what they’ve achieved, and to us as well for how we’ve approached the season as a whole.

We’ve dealt with two changes in ownership, never an easy situation, as it creates a certain degree of uncertainty. That’s why I believe the team deserves a lot of praise for staying the course, as do our executives, starting with lawyer Corradino and CEO Gazzoli. As I said in Frosinone, they’ve done an outstanding job keeping the group protected and allowing us to stay focused solely on football.

Now it seems this new ownership may bring greater stability, not just financially, but in terms of its presence, which I consider a crucial element for both a club and its supporters. Sassuolo and Pisa have well-established and solid ownership structures, with strong teams and excellent managers like Inzaghi and Grosso, who deserve to be where they are because of the great work they’ve done. I believe that all these factors together have contributed to the success of these clubs this season.

As for me, I haven’t yet managed to reach Serie A, I’ve come close, but I’m not giving up. I’ll keep doing everything I can until that moment comes".
