Ahead of the Easter Monday clash at the Picco against Cosenza, Spezia head coach Luca D’Angelo spoke about his team’s current form: “The group responded well to the late equalizer at Mantova. We’ve trained with intensity and focus. There’s no need for special motivation, everyone knows just how crucial this match is for our journey.”
Looking back, I would make the same choices again. Benvenuto did very well, as did the others who came on. The equalizer may have made some decisions seem questionable, but for me, they weren’t at all.
A year ago, we were fighting to avoid relegation. Now, we’re chasing promotion. It’s a completely different situation. Back then, we were filled with concern; this year, we should be proud to be in this position and embrace the opportunity.
Vignali is back training with the group and will be available. As for Degli Innocenti, unfortunately his season is over, which is a real shame. We don't like to make excuses, but it’s easy to forget that we’ve had four major injuries that took away four potential starters. Duccio in particular had been performing really well, and we’re truly sorry to lose him.”
This is the point in the season where fatigue doesn’t exist. We’re playing for something extremely important, something we didn’t expect, and we have to give it everything we’ve got.
Aurelio is a key player. We knew he and Reca would be sharing the left flank. Aurelio is doing well, and he’s someone we believe in a great deal.”
Cassata works hard in training. He’s lacked continuity recently due to a few knocks and suspensions, but he’s an important player for us. I don’t see him as nervous, he just plays with a lot of intensity, and that competitive spirit is what’s helped him build such a strong career.
The table doesn’t mean much right now. Cosenza are very much alive and kicking, so we know we’re in for a tough match, full of potential pitfalls.
Nagy, Esposito and Bandinelli? They’re excellent players, no doubt about that. Their characteristics complement each other well, and I’m glad to coach them, just as I am with the rest of the team.
He also acknowledged Pisa’s form: “Pisa are on an incredible run and deserve credit for it. But as I said before, we have to focus on ourselves and push hard in these final five games. We mustn’t forget where we started and what our objectives were at the beginning of the season. At times we seem to lose heart at the first setback, something we simply cannot afford.
I want the team to play with more calmness. Sometimes we carry the pressure of the result too heavily, when in fact, staying composed can often make the difference.
Our supporters are incredible, they were amazing again in Mantova too. But we feel that passion every day here in the city. I believe Spezia fans appreciate this team most of all for the commitment we show on the pitch, beyond just the results".
