At the final whistle, Head Coach Claudio Terzi commented: “Once again, we delivered an excellent performance. In the first half, on top of the goal, we created several chances to double our lead, and it’s disappointing to have conceded right before halftime, because going into the break ahead would have been important. We could have done better on that goal, and that’s something I regret a bit. But even in the second half the team played well. Both goals we conceded were avoidable, but that’s how it went. In the final minutes we tried to get back into it, taking a few too many risks because we were very stretched forward.
Overall, this has been a positive run. In our last match, we won away at Cremonese, so on that front I have nothing to criticize. Today’s game was within our reach, and the boys were eager to reach the Round of 16 and go play that match in Milan. Now it’s time to focus on the league again, because Saturday we have a very important match ahead of us. We leave this competition with our heads held high, having honored it from start to finish, and from this moment on our attention is fully on the match against Perugia.
We made eleven changes compared to the game against Catanzaro because I believe this is a very strong group, technically and morally, made up of players who give everything in training. The difference in playing time among the squad is minimal; today, those who had played a bit less in the last two matches were on the pitch, and everyone was ready. I expected that. Despite the loss, the performance was solid, and as I said, I had no doubts about that. This group was personally selected by me and by the Sporting Director, Beppe Vecchio, because we know the technical and personal qualities of these players. We have to keep working this way and, starting tomorrow, focus on Saturday’s match in Perugia".
