At the end of the friendly match that ended in a draw at Empoli’s home stadium, Coach Turati spoke to the Club’s media: “We’re very happy because it was a real match—the first of the season—and we approached it with the right attitude; it was our duty to give it our all and put on a good show, and I’m pleased with everyone.
In these matches, the result isn’t the top priority, but today’s outcome certainly rewards us, because achieving it against a strong team from a higher division is definitely important; however, we came here today with the goal of assessing where we stand in our development process, and today I saw some excellent things—the players have grown both physically and tactically—so we can be satisfied, though we’re aware that there’s still a lot of work to be done.
We gave plenty of playing time to several players, but I think that after three weeks, a player can easily handle 70–80 minutes—perhaps not at peak performance; in fact, in the second half we eased off the pressure a bit, while still performing well and moving in an organized manner; I’m also very pleased with those who played fewer minutes but came on with the right attitude, proving they’re capable of and eager to be part of this, so I can only say that we’re on the right track and that we need to keep moving forward like this.”
