The “Aquilotti si Nasce” project continues to show encouraging results. This initiative, launched by Spezia Calcio, has been marking the birth of every child born at the Sant'Andrea Hospital in La Spezia since January 1, 2025.
In the first half of August, the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics saw a veritable boom in births: 40 newborns from August 1 to 15—24 boys and 16 girls—all of whom received the “Aquilotti” welcome box. This figure is even more striking when looking at the days around Ferragosto, when as many as 13 babies were born in just 48 hours.
Conceived by Spezia Calcio in collaboration with the G. Gaslini Institute and ASL5, the project ensures that every newborn receives a welcome box from Spezia Calcio as a gift, containing a branded onesie and bib along with a personal message from President Charlie Stillitano. This initiative brings together the Complex Unit of Gynecology and Obstetrics and the Gaslini Department of Pediatrics and Neonatology at the La Spezia Medical Center, both of which are dedicated to supporting mothers and children on this journey every day.
This small gesture has become a symbol of belonging to the city and a symbolic embrace between the club and La Spezia’s families, at a time when the birth rate remains a central issue for the entire country.
The baby boom during the first half of August confirms the vitality of Sant’Andrea’s maternity program and reinforces the value of an initiative that continues to weave sports into the daily life of the community.
Hundreds of “Aquilotti” have already received their welcome kits since January 2025: a small yet significant sign of how Spezia has been, from day one, an integral part of daily life in the region.
