The return to success arrived on the 7th day, when, Sansovini decided again the delicate match against Reggina. The next round was incredible, with the men of mister Serena imposing a great 5-1 to Livorno, at the home of the historical rival. However, after the exciting success against Livorno, in thirteen games came only two victories, against Crotone and Bari, and the Aquile were placed in mid-table. Despite the success obtained in the first return match against Vicenza, Spezia club decided to face the long January break with a new coach and a new sporting director: the bench was entrusted to Gianluca Atzori, while Pino Vitale was called to manage the market operations. In the market, joined the club the midfielder Gianluca Musacci from Parma, the young Uruguayan born in '93, Nicholas Albarracin, the expert goalkeeper Enrico Guarna from Ascoli and the defender Simone Romagnoli from Pescara; while Lorenzo Crisetig and Matteo Mandorlini left. The adventure of the new coach is not one of the longest-lasting, in fact, after the painful home debut against Hellas Verona, only one success came against Ascoli: after three goals suffered, the Aquile managed to recover until the final 4-3. The heavy defeat against Novara, victorious for 6-0, led to the exoneration of Atzori after only five days at the helm of Spezia. In his place came the expert Gigi Cagni, who with eleven positive results, including the success against Empoli, a future playoff finalist, managed to bring the team to salvation a day in advance, also equaling the record of points in Serie B of Spezia club after the war.
