At the end of the war, the situation of Spezia was very difficult. The city had suffered serious damage and even the club was going through a serious crisis. By virtue of the championships played in Serie B in the previous years and of the recently won championship, Spezia asked for admission to the new Serie A. The request was refused and the company, both in protest and because of the problems of the moment, took part in the Ligurian First Division championship in round A. The following year the Federation, in contradiction with the attitude previously held, readmitted Spezia in the Serie B; the 1946-47 championship ended with a brilliant third place.
In 1947-48 the fourth place in the league allowed Spezia to access the “Serie B single round”; in 1948-49 the team played a playoff in Milan against Parma to remain in Serie B. The following year Spezia reached a good sixth place in the standings, before the decline that would come in the fifties.
