On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the headquarters of the Follo Red Cross hosted a roundtable discussion titled "Men Telling the Stories of Women." The event was moderated by Dr. Michela Ricci Ceffinati of the Irene Anti-Violence Center, the event organizer and a key institution in the fight against gender-based violence in the Spezia area.
The initiative provided an opportunity to raise awareness about one of the most pressing issues of our time. Spezia Calcio contributed its voice to this cause, represented by Luca Picasso, Head of Performance, alongside representatives from local schools, institutions, and the healthcare sector.
Each speaker highlighted how, in their respective fields, the growing presence of women serves as a driving force for progress and efficiency. This sentiment extends to football, where women's involvement has rapidly advanced in recent years. Spezia Calcio exemplifies this evolution, having launched its first-ever women’s senior team in the 2024-2025 season. This historic milestone for the club's youth sector now allows female players to complete their development journey and fulfill their dream of debuting in the senior team while proudly wearing the white jersey.
Picasso also emphasized the remarkable qualities observed in female athletes, starting from the youngest age groups. He praised their attention to detail, active listening skills, and strong motivation to excel in a sport traditionally dominated by men but increasingly open to women, achieving significant results over the years.
