Following the match against Cremonese, Salvatore Esposito shared his thoughts: “I just want to say thank you, thank you to my teammates, to Luca D’Angelo and his staff, and to our incredible fans. I want to make it clear that I’m proud to have been part of this group. It mattered to me to come out and speak after such a painful defeat, because I’ve been here through it all, a relegation, a last-day survival last year, and today we came within reach of something beautiful.
Right now, talking about the future wouldn’t feel right, it would be disrespectful to everything this evening represented. What I saw today were people giving absolutely everything. Players who should’ve already been done for the season were out there fighting and the fans, absolutely unbelievable. I got chills seeing that kind of support after a final loss. The only regret is for those who left early at 0–3, because from the pitch, you see everything.
When you lose and you feel guilty about not giving your all, that’s when anger usually takes over. But tonight, all I saw were tears of disappointment, because we truly gave everything we had. We poured our hearts into it, and I think that was clear, especially in the way we kept fighting and scored two goals even after going down 3–0. As a teammate, all I can say is thank you, to everyone.
The people of Spezia have always been there. They’ve never needed my encouragement. Their love for this team goes beyond the result. There’s a special bond between the team, the ownership, the city, and the supporters. And I truly hope this beautiful stadium will experience more nights like this, only with a different ending. Because Spezia deserves to be back where it belongs, and I’m sure it will get there.
Our one and only goal was to reach Serie A. We believed we deserved it, we believed we could celebrate with our families and with this amazing crowd. But football is like this sometimes. All I can say is that I’ll always carry Spezia in my heart. These have been tough years, but also some of the most beautiful.
I also want to thank those who criticized me, they pushed me to give more. That means I mattered. But once again, my biggest compliments go to my teammates and to the coach, who, more than anyone, deserved to reach Serie A".
