In the presence of Sporting Director Stefano Melissano, goalkeeper Leandro Chichizola was officially introduced to the press. Returning to the Gulf of Poets during the current winter transfer window, Chichizola was warmly welcomed back to Spezia.
Introducing the new addition, Sporting Director Melissano stated: "Good morning, everyone. We're here today to officially welcome Chichizola back for the second half of the season, following a severe injury to Sarr, to whom we send our best wishes for a swift recovery. With Leandro’s arrival, we maintain a very high level of competitiveness within the team, particularly in the goalkeeping department. Today, we have four very strong goalkeepers, including Sarr, of course."
Taking the floor, Spezia's new number 23, Leandro Chichizola, expressed his gratitude: "Thank you all for the warm welcome. I want to immediately thank the Club and the people of Spezia, as I already felt a great deal of affection during Sunday’s match. I’m here to work hard for this final stretch of the season, which will undoubtedly be challenging and crucial for all of us.
Spezia has changed significantly since my last time here, both in terms of the 'Picco' stadium and the training center in Follo. However, what hasn’t changed is the closeness of the fans—their warmth and passion, which I believe have only grown after the Club's stay in Serie A.
I’m hungry and motivated to work. The more time passes, the stronger my desire to perform well and achieve important goals. I’m here to help my teammates and the Club as we navigate this important path started at the beginning of the season.
Physically and mentally, I’m in good condition. At Parma, I stayed active since the league didn’t pause, so I’ve been training consistently since the start of the season. Of course, it’s up to the coach to decide who plays, but my focus is on working hard, training my best, and supporting my teammates to reach significant achievements.
In these first few days, I’ve felt very comfortable with my teammates. The locker room is healthy, filled with hardworking players who push themselves every day in training. I think that’s the secret behind this Spezia squad.
I didn’t stay in Serie A with Parma because my expectations didn’t align with what transpired. Parma is clearly a club focused on young players, and I’m no longer in that category. When the opportunity to return to Spezia came up, I seized it immediately. I feel great and was eager to wear this jersey again.
I have many fond memories in this jersey, but the one that stands out most is the incredible match at the Stadio Olimpico against Roma, when we advanced in the Coppa Italia. It was an unforgettable achievement that no one expected. I still remember how the fans gathered en masse at Follo in the days following to thank us for what we had accomplished. If I had to choose one special moment, it would undoubtedly be that.
I’ve seen a team that works incredibly hard. The standings look good, but there’s still a long way to go. We need to keep working with humility, and I’m confident that points will come as a result of these efforts.
We know that Sunday’s match against Carrarese will be tough and important, as all Serie B matches are. I’m aware of how special this game is for the fans, and it’s just as important for us. We’re determined to secure our first three points of 2025".
