On the eve of the match against Cremonese, coach Luca D’Angelo addressed the media with the following remarks: “We returned from Reggio with a loss and a second half in which we didn’t perform well. On top of that, we also had to deal with Bertola’s injury, a tough blow, no doubt, but there’s nothing we can do about it now. Our focus has to shift to Cremonese.
Tomorrow’s match will certainly feel different compared to a playoff in terms of pressure. It’s an important game, but not a decisive one, whereas in the playoffs, the stakes are much higher.
Cremonese is one of the strongest teams in the league. They reached the playoff final last season and have strengthened even further this year. That said, we need to give our best, as we always do, and come away with points, fully aware of how strong our opponent is.
We chased a dream for a long time, but Sassuolo and Pisa proved to be stronger and deserved their results. We definitely put in a lot of effort, when you’re chasing, you always have to give something extra, but now it’s time to turn our attention to the playoffs.
Right now, we’re focused solely on the match against Cremonese. It’s not yet the time to be making calculations or special lineup decisions. We’ll think about Cosenza the day after tomorrow.
In Reggio Emilia, we had a good first 30 minutes, but then the team got a bit too soft. I prefer our forwards to stay closer to the penalty area. In that match, the game pulled them further back, but in general, I want them playing higher up the pitch and not getting dragged too deep.
Along with Juve Stabia, we’ve been the surprises of the season, I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. We’ve done a great job staying competitive all year long, and credit goes not only to the team but also to the club and to our incredible fans, who have supported us all the way.
Last year’s match against Venezia was a turning point, even in terms of the Club’s future. Now, we’re playing for completely different goals, and we approach these matches with enthusiasm and determination. We have everything it takes to win the playoffs, and we need to bring that belief and hunger to the field.
We earned more points in the first half of the season, but our performances improved in the second half, even though we drew several matches in which we definitely deserved all three points. In terms of our play, the team has made real progress, and that gives me confidence heading into the playoffs. Those matches are incredible opportunities for everyone. There’s great excitement around the city, and we have to feed off that energy and approach those games with the same spirit we’ve shown throughout the season.
Let’s not forget, we’ve lost some key players to injuries that won’t be resolved quickly. But the group I have is full of desire and determination.
Inzaghi? I really appreciated his comments. He’s a top coach, and I had no doubt that Pisa would be one of the season’s top contenders, they fully deserved promotion. We gave it our best shot, and now it’s time to reset and give everything we’ve got in the playoffs.
Who would I rather not face in the semifinals? I’d say Inter, since they always seem to win them.”
