Following the friendly against Lecce, Coach Luca D’Angelo shared his thoughts on the team’s performance: “We approach summer friendlies with the mindset of trying to get results every time, always looking to improve from one match to the next. Today was a challenging test, especially from a defensive standpoint, and the team held up very well across the board.
We’ve been putting in a lot of work on aerobic conditioning and strength. This was a meaningful test, facing a team from a higher division, with our players carrying a lot of fatigue in their legs, so we can definitely be satisfied with the response we saw.
The team is maintaining its usual mindset, which is to play with intensity no matter who the opponent is. That identity is important and we must hold on to it. Of course, there’s still plenty to improve over the next month as we prepare for the season opener.
Vlahovic? He scored a beautiful goal. He’s used to playing a different style, on his own with two players behind him, but now he has to adapt to working with a strike partner. I think we’re already seeing progress. Today he linked up well with Di Serio; they played each other through on goal, which is a good sign. There’s still work to be done on their partnership, but we’ll focus on that in the coming weeks. I’m really pleased with Vlahovic’s attitude and the way he’s started.
Goalkeepers? We’ve got two very strong ones. I’ll make my choice based on who convinces me more, knowing that whoever starts will have real competition pushing him every day.
Young players? The youngsters with us in camp have been doing great. Even in the second half, Lecce still had Serie A players on the field, while we brought on several very young players who responded extremely well. Starting with the three defenders, Giorgeschi, Benvenuto, and Onofri. The lads who’ve joined us from the Primavera are doing a great job, showing maturity and dedication. Credit goes to Coach Terzi and Director Vecchio for that.
Salvatore Esposito? He’s a very intelligent player, always influential. Naturally, he was a bit tired toward the end, but he logged solid minutes and put in a good performance overall".
